How to use make up to accentuate your natural features

Did you know March 1st was World Compliment Day? Offering someone a compliment is the ultimate way to uplift and make them feel good. In this piece, I thought it would be fun to share my tips on how you can use make up to compliment and accentuate your natural features, answering questions such as “How to accentuate your features with makeup.”

Face Framing Through the Eyes

Groomed brows make an instant difference to the face, helping to lift the eyes and, consequently, the entire face. Brushing your brows up and filling any gaps with a brow pencil can elevate your look. I recommend the Mac Eyebrows Styler for creating hair-like strokes that mimic natural hair. This product provides a soft, natural finish, and it is self-sharpening for convenience. Depending on your lashes and desired effect, the right mascara can lengthen, lift, curl and volumize your natural lashes, instantly opening up the eyes.

Winged liner is my favourite technique to elongate the eyes and provide an instant lift. For a softer wing, you can use a pencil or a black or brown eyeshadow to create a gentler appearance.

For Your Face

When it comes to your face, consider using a tinted moisturiser like the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. Mix in a drop of foundation or a liquid illuminator in with your moisturiser, or opt for a radiance-boosting, skincare supercharged foundation like the Bobbi Brown Intensive Serum Foundation. These choices not only add colour and luminosity to your skin but also infuse it with a generous dose of skincare goodness and instantly lift your complexion and features.

Cream or liquid blush can be instrumental in lifting your complexion for a youthful glow. Personal favourites include the Nars Liquid Blush for a lit-from-within addition of colour to the cheeks and the Made by Mitchell Liquid Blush, offering a range of shades suitable for all skin tones and allowing for buildable colour.

Luscious Lips

Finish off your look with a clear or tinted gloss like the Fenty Gloss Bomb. It’s a great way to achieve a youthful, fresh finish while naturally enhancing your features with makeup.

Remember, the key is to use makeup to complement and accentuate your natural beauty, improving your features and achieving a look that feels uniquely you.
